In 1979, a British journalist made a great discovery when he was given the unusual assignment of interviewing one of the oldest documented living people in the world, Mr. Shigechiyo Izumi. Mr. Izumi was a sprightly 115 year old man in amazingly good health who lived on an island off the coast of Japan. He appeared to be active and alert, as spry as a healthy 70 year old.
